OBJECTIVOS, ACTIVIDADES E RESULTADOS ATINGIDOS

Through the implementation of this project, SEAentia conducted a proof of concept aimed at validating and gathering all necessary information for the culture of a new species in Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS): Corvina (Argyrosomus regius).
It’s noteworthy that, given the global absence of corvina production in RAS to commercial size, a series of technical and scientific activities were essential to acquire knowledge about the species, its zootechnical performance, establish growth and feeding models, and quantify and characterize its performance in such systems.
In short, the introduction of the RAS for corvina farming, albeit on a pilot scale, allowed for testing and validating not only this aquaculture production technology but also the species itself. The RAS enabled the optimization of fish growth, and maintenance of water quality throughout the production cycle without the use of chemicals or antibiotics, consequently, guaranteeing animal welfare. Corvina proved to be an excellent species for aquaculture production, with all nutritional and sensory indicators exceeding expectations.
